Viola Odette Harlow was diagnosed in 2019 with Prinzmetal Angina Heart Disease (Coronary Artery Spasms), Lupus, AFIB, Atrial Tachycardia, EDS, Hashimoto, Anemia, and Asthma. She had been feeling sick since her early 20's, but the scale was tipped in 2019 and her autoimmune blood work jumped and a cascade of diagnoses along with it in the ICU.
As Prinzmetal Angina is a rare disease the medications and testing are rarely covered by insurance. The doctors worked hard in the Cardiac ICU to keep her stable and alive but it racked up 150k medical debt plus ongoing medications, testing, and hospitalizations. Her cardiologist is very supportive of her career and has a different regimen of medication on days she shoots videos or has a show. He sometimes will even show up if she's not doing well. She is blessed with the best medical team in the country for Prinzmetal which involves her Cardiologist, the whole Cedars cardiology team, and a specialist in Prinzmetal at the Mayo Clinic. The condition is not only rare, it's dangerous and unpredictable so she makes the most of every good day and does what she loves, as well as caring for her habitat of pets that comfort her on bad days. She is dependent on 13 medications for her heart and to suppress her immune system. She requires a very expensive nitroglycerin spray for heart spasms. Her testing is ongoing as they monitor the health of heart during flares for damage. She will have this the rest of her life but she is grateful to be here. Depending on hormones and histamines and luck she has good days to offset the bad. She doesn't know which it will be. Learn more, and get involved, below.
