The Music Community has lost several iconic figures from Michael Jackson to Chris Cornell. These losses have been felt on a global scale. Depression, Anxiety and Substance Abuse affect Rock Fans and Rock Bands alike. Alarmingly, the impact of these issues can be debilitating to the point of death or suicide. Money, Fame nor the Adulation from millions of adoring fans can lessen the impact of these devastating illnesses. In fact, though many fans would believe that these Rockstars have the ideal life, these factors can have the opposite effect of isolation, embarrassment and the fear of being ridiculed. These issues hurt deeply enough. Having your emotional state broadcasted as the big story on the news can be enough to put anyone over the edge.
The Rock Collective is a Community of mutually supportive Rock n’ Roll Bands and Artists who are committed to supporting each other and growing together. Our bands collaborate, share ideas, play live shows together and support each other through times of adversity. Many within our community have dealt with Depression and Anxiety and know firsthand how horrible it can feel. As a result, the Bands/Artists within The Rock Collective feel compelled to do what they can to help. #SweetSupporters Everclear are hitting the road for their 30th Anniversary Tour this summer w/ special guests Fastball and The Nixons! Chronic illnesses can take a hefty toll on a person’s ability to cope with stress, anxiety, or depression and can contribute to those feelings as well. We're proud to announce our partnership with Bill Graham Memorial Foundation to launch the BGP Remembers Fund. If you're in the music and arts world and struggling due to the pandemic, please apply for assistance, and spread the word.
While we are beginning to see some light, it looks to be a slow and curvy road to full recovery in the music and arts world. 100% of the money donated to this fund will go toward helping folks within our extended communities - the artists, as well as the many “behind the scenes” workers without whom the show truly could not go on. Contributions to this fund will help to pay for medical expenses, housing, food and vital living expense such as utilities, clothing, transportation, program services and counseling. This fund is currently active and we welcome applications from anyone in the broader "Bill Graham Communities” who feel they could use a hand. Our friends at Musically Fed have partnered with Rhino Staging in Tempe, Arizona to give back this holiday season. Calling all roots musicians performing in the Bay Area! Whippoorwill Arts launched Music aLIVE offering up to $1000 grants to musicians for live performances.
Music aLIVE supports roots musicians enriching the Bay area community through live music. We encourage musicians to think “outside the box” and to partner with presenting organizations to set up public concerts, for example K-12 public schools, public parks, senior living communities, etc. The grant is intended to help musicians get back to work with paid live performances and bring live music to folks who don’t usually have access. Grants range up to $1000 (depending on ensemble size and length of the concert). This grant program is open to both new and established musicians who play Roots, Bluegrass, Folk, Americana, Blues, and global roots music. We welcome soloists, two- or three-piece ensembles. Larger groups may submit and will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. We strongly encourage applications from BIPOC, disabled, and LGBTQIA+ musicians. Whippoorwill Arts has created initiatives including Whippoorwill Arts Artist Awards, Arts & Music Collaborations, Banjo Boy Coffee Concerts, Whippoorwill Arts Festival of Americana Music, Healthy Living (Vegan Diet and Nutrition), and the Music Home Project by which Whippoorwill Arts seeks to present, support, and promote traditional musicians and the music they preserve, create and share—with a focus on the local community and their networks.
