KEYBOARDIST AND FORMER MEMBER OF GRATEFUL DEAD IS IN URGENT NEED OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AS HE BATTLES LUNG CANCER New York, NY (August 25, 2025) - Keyboardist and former Grateful Dead member Tom “TC” Constanten is in urgent need of financial assistance due to a current battle with lung cancer. He faces significant health challenges that require ongoing care, treatment, and support. To help during this incredibly difficult time, Sweet Relief Musicians Fund has launched the Tom “TC” Constanten Fund. Aric Steinberg, Executive Director at Sweet Relief Musicians Fund adds “Sweet Relief is honored to help Tom during this difficult time in his life. Our Directed Artist Funds can provide a meaningful solution when the community rallies around the recipient, and we know that Tom’s community cares about him deeply. His influence on the musical landscape with the Grateful Dead is long-lasting, and he has touched many people around the world.” Constanten shares, “Over the years I have experienced such generosity that it boggles the mind. I count my wealth in friends, and it’s a blessing I’d never want to trade away. Still, situations change and things come up…” Best known for his work with the Grateful Dead during their early years, TC contributed his classically trained keyboard brilliance to albums like Aoxomoxoa and Anthem of the Sun, plus their fan-loved live album, 1969’s Live Dead. Beyond the Dead, TC has spent decades sharing his music with the world, touring, and collaborating with artists across genres. Throughout his life, TC has given so much to the world through his music. Now, it’s our turn to give back. Donations will go directly toward covering medical bills and other vital living expenses. Sweet Relief Musicians Fund provides services and financial assistance for career musicians and music industry professionals. Grants are earmarked for medical and vital living expenses, including insurance premiums, prescriptions, medical treatment and operative procedures, housing costs, food costs, utilities, and other basic necessities.
