An update from Sweet Relief Beneficiary John Langenstein

8/19/2025

Picture
In November 2024, Sweet Relief established the John Langenstein Fund after John suffered multiple seizures and two strokes, which left him hospitalized and unable to work. Although slow moving, his recovery showed promise and we were able to help cover medical bills, rent, and other vital living expenses as he focused on healing.

Now, in August 2025, John has been hospitalized once again—this time due to a heart attack and another stroke. He shared the following update
"There are no correct words to describe how appreciative and humbled I am for the enormous support from Sweet Relief and all of those who donated and helped my family and myself this past year.

I've been trying to put this update together for some time now, but wanted to share with you now what the life-changing events that have happened over the past year.

Since last July, I have been working on my recovery from the stroke I experienced.  It took some time, but was still dealing with seizures which have lessened in time.  But still, something was just not right as this year progressed.

Now we are in August of 2025.  I just returned home last week from the hospital.  I had a heart attack and another stroke six (6) minutes apart on August 1st.  The doctors took hold and placed 3 stents in my heart.  I'm lucky this stroke did not affect the part of the brain that would have been very debilitating.  So now I am in recovery mode.  Getting as much rest as I can and healing."

Read the rest of the update on his Fund page below.

 PRE-ORDER AVAILABLE NOW

New York, NY (August 11, 2025) -  Sweet Relief is honored to receive support from the family and community of Kai Wesener, a brilliant young musician who poured his heart into his art. Recording under the name bl4ck m4rket c4rt, Kai created haunting, beautiful music that captured the complexities of mental health with raw honesty. His slowcore, shoegaze, and slacker rock sound reflected a quiet battle beneath the surface, one shared by so many artists today.

Kai was selected for GRAMMY Camp 2023 and had just released his debut album when he passed away at age 17. His songs live on as a powerful expression of what it means to struggle, survive, and speak through sound.
Net proceeds from the release of his vinyl EP will benefit Sweet Relief’s Mental Health Fund, supporting musicians facing the same invisible challenges Kai gave voice to. Vinyls will be shipped on August 25, the two year anniversary of his original EP release date.

Sweet Relief is so deeply moved by Kai’s legacy, and grateful to help carry it forward.

A study by digital distribution platform Record Union surveyed about 1,500 musician participants in 2019 and found that 73% of independent musicians struggle with mental illness. Mental Health Fund provides financial assistance to music industry professionals in need of mental health services and aims to significantly lower that percentage.

AUCTION ITEMS INCLUDED HANDWRITTEN JOURNEY LYRICS, SIGNED MEMORABILIA & OTHER PERSONAL ITEMS FROM HIS ARCHIVE
Picture
LOS ANGELES, CA (June 16, 2025) – As Altadena continues to rebuild its neighborhoods after the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, Rock & Roll icon Steve Perry has raised $215,000 from his legendary auction; full of music history from the rock legend's personal archive to help raise money for the Altadena fire victims via Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. The standout item was the "Don't Stop Believin'" handwritten lyrics, which went for $43,500.

Darkives Collectibles curated over 50 pieces from Perry's personal archives to give fans the opportunity to add never-before-available, unique, signed, graded, and collectible items to their own collections. Items in the auction include Handwritten Lyrics from classic Journey songs, Perry's own Gold & Platinum Records, Vintage Tour merch incl. T-Shirts & Tour Programs, a custom Journey Vehicle Registration Plate signed by Perry, signed studio-used instruments, and Signed Vinyl Test Pressings, LPs, CDs & Cassettes, all graded and authenticated in partnership with Audio Media Grading (AMG).

Highlights in the auction included one-off Handwritten Lyrics of the Journey classics Don’t Stop Believin’ & Faithfully along with Steve Perry’s Multi-Platinum RIAA Award for Journey’s Greatest Hits, which was presented to him for over 15 million albums sold. Both Solo & Journey albums and Test Pressings from Steve’s personal archive are being included in the auction, including his own LP, CD & Cassette copies of the 1984 Street Talk Solo album, Journey’s E5C4P3 (Escape) & Frontiers album, all of which have been signed by Steve before being graded, authenticated and preserved by Audio Media Grading (AMG). Auction lots also include genuine vintage merch items from the Strange Medicine 1994 Tour, Journey’s 1981 Escape Tour & Street Talk 1984 Tour including signed tour programs & genuine vintage tour shirts that have been carefully stored in the Steve Perry Archive. Fans can also bid on a rare signed ‘JRNEYFAN’ license plate that was thrown on stage during a show in New Jersey back in the day – a moment that stuck with Steve as a reminder of the incredible passion and energy of his fans, but is now passing this one-off rarity on as a special piece of history to help a greater cause.

On the auction conclusion, Perry shares, “I’m truly appreciative of the incredible support for this charity auction. It means the world to me to see these personal pieces, many of which carry deep memories from different chapters of my life, find new homes while helping a cause that matters so deeply to me. I started this auction as a way to give back, and the response has been nothing short of overwhelming. I’m beyond grateful to everyone who participated, placed bids, shared the word, and supported the mission. Your generosity and kindness have turned this into something truly special.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. And who knows… maybe I’ll dig a little deeper into the vault and do this again sometime.”

On May 5th, the community will come together in a powerful way — with music, with open hearts, and with unwavering love — to support a woman who has faced unimaginable challenges with incredible courage: Amanda "Mandy" Pence.

Mandy’s cancer journey began on May 18, 2022, with what was supposed to be a routine colonoscopy. Instead, it became the first step in a battle no one should have to face. Since that day, Mandy has endured multiple surgeries, countless rounds of chemotherapy, and ongoing physical and emotional challenges — all while holding on to her humor, her heart, and her fierce will to keep going.

After transferring her care to MD Anderson in Houston, TX, and facing recurrence after recurrence — most recently a mass in her right lung discovered in April 2024 — Mandy and her family made the brave decision to pursue holistic and homeopathic treatment options. These treatments have taken her to healing centers in Guadalajara, Mexico and Sedona, Arizona, offering hope where traditional care could not — but also placing a heavy financial burden on her family and loved ones.

"A Big Night For A Little Sister " is more than a concert. It’s a tribute to a life that continues to inspire. It’s a chance to stand beside a beloved sister, friend, daughter, and mother — and remind her that she is not walking this road alone.

Join us for a night of live music, community, and hope. Together, we’ll raise funds to help cover Mandy’s medical and holistic care costs — and raise her spirits in the process.

All proceeds to benefit Sweet Relief and the Amanda Pence Fund. If you're unable to attend the show and would still like to donate, please click HERE.
